Barbecue baked beans (by Karl)

This is one of the back home memory meals for Karl, especially the ones he got at the best barbecue place from where he comes from: ‘Zarda Barbecue’. Still now he brings back home bottles of Zarda barbecue sauce, and when it’s gone, he looks for recipes to make himself something that resembles that most of all.

So this recipe is heavily inspired by Zarda barbecue beans. I can’t wait to go and try for myself whether this place is really so good, or whether this is one of the tastes acquired in childhood, and if you didn’t grew up with it, then you can’t really appreciate it that much…

Ingredients

3 cans of beans (white beans in tomato sauce or American pork and beans)

200 smoked bacon, chopped

1 cup of barbecue sauce

Couple drops of liquid smoke (optional)

Salt to taste

1 onion, chopped

Directions

Put the onions and bacon in a pan and cook for around 10 minutes on low heat until the onions are translucent.

Dump in everything else, lower the heat to minimum, let it cook for 5 hours, taking the lid off or putting it on to make it as thick as you like.

Serve with burgers or with BBQ ribs.
